CN-20-22

The National Virus Reference Laboratory (NVRL) was informed by Abbott Diagnostics that due to manufacturing problems there would be a significant shortage of Abbott Architect HCV Antigen kits for the foreseeable future. Therefore, the NVRL will prioritise the use of the Abbott Architect HCV Antigen assay for specific populations as listed below:

  •        Screening of potential organ donors
  •        Screening of patients undergoing renal haemodialysis
  •        Screening of the source patients of needlestick injuries
  •        Screening of “unbooked” pregnant women at delivery
  •        The requirement of HCV Ag investigations in accordance with National Guildelines

HCV Ag investigations will not be performed on any other patient group.

NVRL sincerely apologises for any inconvenience which is outside our control.
