CN-21-4: As part of the programme to support the national pandemic response, the National Virus Reference Laboratory (NVRL) with the support of the Department of Agriculture, Food & Marine, is consolidating COVID-19 testing at a single satellite laboratory at Backweston, Co. Kildare from March 8th 2021.   From this date all COVID related testing will be undertaken at the Backweston site, enabling the UCD laboratory site to focus on non-COVID testing. This dual campus approach is part of the HSE-NVRL programme to increase national clinical diagnostic resilience and capacity. This service will be provided 7 days per week. Samples can be received up to 11.00pm and there are no changes to the reporting of results.

To ensure testing is undertaken without delay healthcare providers are reminded that all SARS-CoV-2 samples must be delivered to the new laboratory facility at Department of Agriculture, Food & Marine, at Backweston Laboratory Complex, Youngs Cross, Celbridge, Co. Kildare W23 X3PH from March 8th 2021.
