CN-24-23: mpox update re Specimen Handling and Transportation

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

Please find below the latest information regarding the assessment and testing pathways for MPXV Clade I and Clade II. This update supersedes all previous communications and can be accessed on the HPSC website. As noted, there is no need to contact the NVRL, either during working hours or after hours, before sending samples for mpox testing. Our user manual will be updated accordingly.

As MPXV is classified as a Hazard Group 3 pathogen, please ensure that samples for mpox diagnostics are packaged separately from other samples and are clearly labelled on the outside of the box as being possible/probable mpox.
The document: Specimen Handling and LaboratoryTransportation, referenced in our user manual and available on the HPSC website, is currently being revised. The final version will also confirm that it is no longer necessary to phone the NVRL in advance.

Thank you for your cooperation with this.
