Customer Notification: Update to HIV Genotyping protocol at NVRL

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

As of the week beginning 29/09/25, the NVRL will transition from our existing Sanger sequencing HIV GART assays to a modified protocol, utilising next generation sequencing for data acquisition.

At this time, the test request code will change to "NIHI", and will combine the separate PR/RT and integrase reporting into a single result.  Please note that whole-genome analysis is not yet available.  In order to maintain equivalence with pre-existing Sanger data, a minor population frequency threshold of 20% will be applied to the GART data - ie, mutations will not be assessed if detected at less than 20% of NGS reads. If desired, users may request re-analysis with a lower threshold applied.

If you would like to discuss this change further, please email jonathan.dean@ucd.ie
