CN-21-6: Update in relation to Luminex Nx TAG Respiratory Pathogen Panel

Luminex Respiratory Panel includes test for SARS-CoV-2

We have had a number of queries in recent weeks in relation to the Luminex Nx TAG Respiratory Panel – test code LRSC.

This test has been the NVRL first line assay for Influenza and other Respiratory viruses since December 2017. In the setting of the pandemic, the formulation was updated to include SARS-CoV-2.

NVRL introduced this new assay on 15th January 2021. As a result, all samples received at NVRL for Influenza and Respiratory viruses are routinely tested for SARS-CoV-2.

HCV Ag testing: Normal Service Resumes

NVRL is delighted to announce that we have received delivery of Abbott Architect HCV Ag kits. HCV Ag testing will now be carried out as requested by our users.

This return of service will lower the demand for HCV RNA tests.

NVRL thanks users for patience and adaptability over the past months in relation to this issue.

UPDATE from NVRL regarding Satellite Laboratory at Backweston Campus Celbridge

CN-21-4 – Addendum

Following the publication of this customer notification on Friday 5th March 2021, from today 8th March 2021 all SARS CoV-2 RNA swab testing is now taking place at the NVRL Satellite Lab in Backweston. As with any change there have been a few teething issues today.

Please note that only SARS CoV-2 swabs are being tested in Backweston. Bloods and other sample types must still go to the main NVRL site in UCD.

UCD-National Virus Reference Laboratory consolidates COVID-19 testing at new satellite laboratory

CN-21-4: As part of the programme to support the national pandemic response, the National Virus Reference Laboratory (NVRL) with the support of the Department of Agriculture, Food & Marine, is consolidating COVID-19 testing at a single satellite laboratory at Backweston, Co. Kildare from March 8th 2021.   From this date all COVID related testing will be undertaken at the Backweston site, enabling the UCD laboratory site to focus on non-COVID testing.
