Customer Notification: HSE now provides Oracol Swabs – please order via the email address below

To continue to supply the needs of clinicians for the period up to 30th September 2024, the HSE will now provide Oracol swabs to GPs, hospitals and other service providers. 

To order Oracol swabs for measles testing, GPs should email measles.swab@jmc.ie providing the following information:

  • GP / Practice Name
  • Address and Eircode
  • Contact Number

Customer Notification: HDV RNA testing at NVRL

UCD NVRL is pleased to announce that we are introducing testing for Hepatitis Delta (HDV) RNA in house from 8th March 2024, using the RealStar® HDV RT-PCR Kit 1.0. This is a quantitative HDV realtime PCR assay and as a result samples will no longer need to be referred abroad, resulting in an improved turnaround time assisting patient management.

The test code has been notified and is AHDV. Please use AHDV instead of the current test code MDDG on all requests from 8th March 2024.

Customer Notification: Flavivirus Testing at UCD NVRL

UCD NVRL is pleased to inform users of the delivery of Euroimmun IIFT products and we are now in a position to provide Flavivirus screening once again.  This notification overrides CN-23-24 which was published on 23rd November.

UCD NVRL engaged with the supplier and distributor in connection with these delays.

Customer Notification: Abbott SARS-CoV-2 IgG assay will be discontinued

 

UCD NVRL is informing customers that the Abbott Anti-SARS-CoV-2 assay is being discontinued for Clinical Use. This is necessitated by the lack of kit controls.

 

UCD NVRL sincerely apologises for any inconvenience to users; this change is completely outside the control of UCD NVRL.

About the NVRL

The UCD National Virus Reference Laboratory (NVRL) provides a diagnostic and reference service for clinicians investigating viral infections throughout Ireland. The laboratory is affiliated to the University College Dublin School of Medicine. The NVRL have provided a virology diagnostic service to the Irish health service for over forty years.

We currently perform over 700,000 tests annually, involving some 120 tests for 40 different pathogens and provide specialist reference services which have been developed as a result of medical and technical expertise built over many years. We are proud to offer our service users accredited tests in line with national and international “best practice”.

Hours of service

Normal Opening Hours:        Monday to Friday:       8.00 a.m. - 5.30 p.m.

The laboratory routinely operates from 8.00 am to 6.00 p.m. daily but officially opens from 8.00am to 5.30 pm, Monday to Friday.

The NVRL is accredited by the Irish National Accreditation Board (INAB) to undertake testing as detailed in the Schedule bearing the Registration Number 326MT, in compliance with the International Standard ISO/IEC 15189:2012 "Medical laboratories - Requirements for quality and competence".
